In classic southwestern Shona architectual form, this headrest has the patina of many many years use, probably carved around the 1850 - 1870 period and used for 30 to 40 years. The small lugs with a simple carved pattern, have had several holes pierced for tying a string, used for carrying around the neck. Dark oily patina on the top from libations used in dream ritual.
