A superbly carved example of a Dan miniature mask, 'Ma go', showing signs of libation. These middle sized masks between the dance masks and the passport masks had a variety of uses including use during initiation camps and ceremonies, meetings of secret societies and as a miniature of a family mask, a friendly attractive spirit. There is an excellent section on small masks in the book, Africa - The Art of a Continent by Tom Phillips.
